Please write in in plain text

We get email that starts with

<html xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"><head><meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8"><meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Word 15 (filtered medium)"><style><!--

and all we can say is please adjust your email program so we can read what you wanted to say. That is, if you want us to read it and react to it.

People should get back to the good habit of sending emails in plain text format. It’s absurd to send them in HTML format if you don’t need to format them in bold or italics.

It’s absurd to send email in “HTML only” format. There probably is a need for every email to look fancy, but leaving out the plaintext version altogether is an accessibility issue. If requestors’ emails to us don’t contain a plaintext part, all we see is tag soup.
