LISTED: American Association for Science and Technology (AASCIT)

AASCIT spammed our traps, and is of course well known to Dr. Beall as one would expect.

Please come out plain and state whether the listed name is a scam or not. Do not go roundabout it presenting these technical details without interpretation. Otherwise, I am not sure whether you are stating that the listed name is a predatory publisher or not!

      Thank you for participating.

We don’t quite understand your burst, though. ScientificSpam.net is not about whether any entities mentioned here are scams or predatory publishers. We are concerned with whether any entity is spamming (sending unsolicited bulk email) alone; there is quite a tie between predatory publishing and Scientific Spam, but not all Scientific Spammers are predatory publishers (or publishers at all) and it may also be that not all predatory publishers are Scientific Spammers. Dr Beall does a fine job of cataloguing predatory publishers, there would be no point in our trying to duplicate his efforts.

I also got spammed by them, from aascitNews and that address is in China, as is their web site. That a Chinese operation uses “American” in their name should ring alarm bells. And a cursory glance at their list of “journals” should also help – most just started, those that have some papers of very poor quality.

There is an almost endless supply of poor quality journals out there – which makes it hard for those of us running good journals that are not well known (mine, South African Computer Journal, long predates spam and predatory publishing; we rely on personal networking to attract authors.

I have once in recent times received an invitation to publish in a good journal, BMC Bioinformatics, and the author misspelled my name. had I not known it was a good journal from prior experience, I would have labelled it as spam. Most times, an unsolicited journal invitation (whether to submit a paper or to join the editorial team) should be treated with suspicion.

AASCIT is a spam journal. I submitted an article and within a week it was accepted. the reviews were fake and they praise you so much. They asked me to pay publication fee. I paid and then they stalled. i wrote them tons of emails. they ignored me. Good lesson. To the hell with these useless bunch of predatory publishers. they are upto milking money from gullible researchers.

AASCIT are complete spammers beware. Recently i sent an article to the American journal of science and technology. After what appears to be a bogus review they replied they have accepted my article. they asked me to pay article processing charges. The bank transfer address is Honkong while the journal is American! I transferred USD 200. After ackinolweding the recipt of the money they refused to publish my article. I pleaded with them but since then they refused to reply. The address [email protected]. there is no person full name, no address, no contact. Only gmail address. These are complete spammers. Do not ever send your journal to AASCIT. I have all the evidence of the communication i had with them. If needs be i can give you the details.

To be honest, we’re not that concerned with the predatory publishing practices or the fraud. That’s more in the realm of http://scholarlyoa.com. But yes, AASCIT definitely are spammers, and nowhere near America.

AASCIT is a funnily persistent spammer. They keep sending me different (or identical) proposals at least once a month, since I published an article an year or so ago. Sometimes their spam contains comical mistakes: they once forgot who they were impersonating and used another domain in the “From”, ipajournal, thus revealing that AASCIT is the same as SciencePC.

Grazie, Federico. Similar gaffes occur in scientific spam all the time, reducing the actual number of actors in the field by perhaps an order of magnitude…
